"Keep on Traveling"

Thank God for bestowing peace and happiness on our journey together. The fruits of our prayers to Our Lady of Fatima bring lasting joy and hope, which we share throughout our lifetime. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Cristina Duarte, the true Portuguese ambassador, who demonstrated excellent knowledge, a sterling heart, and diligence on every detail. Our accommodations were exceptional, including gluten-free meals, throughout the trip. Cristina's dedication and generosity make the Heart of Portugal an unforgettable memory.

We would like to thank our local guides Ju (Lisbon), Maria (Évora), Dora (Coimbra College), Ricardo (Taste Porto), and Lisa (St. Clair and Stock Exchange Palace) for providing us with an excellent historical and cultural experience of the places we visited.

Thank you to our trustworthy driver, Mario, who is pictured here with Rich and Jan.

I am immensely grateful to my co-creators Barbara and Rick Krolick, who are resourceful travelers, prudent journal keepers, and copious contributors to this scrapbook project. I also extend my thanks to the jovial group of Rick Steves Heart Portugal, who kept the momentum and motivation going to make this scrapbook happen in the digital world.

My appreciation also goes to my maven mentor, Kirsten, who effectively taught me how to build a website and monitored my progress from her Pacific west coast radar. I am grateful to Gianni, whom I met on a bus ride from Lisbon, and her friend Matteus, they helped me find my AirBnB in Nazaré at a late hour. Even after I left Portugal, Gianni selected the Portuguese Proverbs upon my request. They were a godsend and came to my aid like thunder

Brennan and Kai are both creative artists and good students at "Henry the Navigator's school."

Furthermore, I extend my thanks to Armando and Luciana for my Portuguese connections and sending Portuguese Proverbs, curiosities and "secret" recipe of pastel de nata. I also appreciate my talented nephews, Kai and Brennan, for creating artworks to stimulate interest in the history of navigation.

Finally, I extend my thanks to all those not mentioned on this page, but their names are written in the stars. This story is published because of their kindness.

Azulejos are one of the many iconic symbols of Portugal. These blue tiles can be found adorning almost every surface and not only are they visually stunning, but they also provide a practical purpose in the hot climate by cooling the surroundings. Leaving Portugal, Azulejos became our timeless keepsake that we cherish in our fond memory.
