Evora Cathedral

Evora Cathedral #1.jpg

The 15th-century Baroque-style church utilized a pregnant Mary as an evangelical tool to convert Celtic pagans and inspire them to worship the miraculous Savior. This was achieved not merely through a disproportionate statue, but through a powerful and meaningful symbol.

The Arc Angel Gabriel faced the Blessed Virgin Mary, representing the story of Annunciation at a time when the Bible was not widely available to the public. One can sense the challenge of teaching unfamiliar concepts and introducing new practices of faith. It is truly remarkable how this was accomplished in the past, as we have little knowledge of the methods used.

Directions

To reach the Evora Cathedral, simply continue on the same street where you arrived at the Roman Temple. The Cathedral is located at the end of the block. It is quite fitting that the temple and the cathedral are situated in close proximity to one another.

After leaving the cathedral, we entered the commercial zone where various stores and restaurants are located. Cristina kindly treated us to pastel de nata once more, and we suspect it may have been from the shop called Fábrica dos Pastéis. However, we were advised to wait until the end of the tour to explore more open-air eateries at the public market.
